Reggie Plays Rath
Recently at the 2010 International Trombone Competition in Austin, TX I had the great pleasure of meeting Michael Rath creator of Rath trombones, a UK company. I became a fan of his work many years ago after testing out one at Rayburn's Music in Boston. I was there playing a show with Maynard Ferguson and Arturo Sandoval plus symphony orchestra, and the good folks from Rayburn's invited some of us to come by the store and look around and maybe play some horns. Well it was that Sunday morning in Boston I picked up and played a Rath Trombone for 2 hours and absoulutely fell in love with the response, tone, and feel of this horn. Unfortunately at the time I didn't have the $1300.00 to buy the horn and had to let it go. Over the years I've had many conversations w/ others about my love of that horn and my admiration of the company so it was a long time coming but I am pleased to announce that I am now a Rath Artist and very excited about it. Some other Rath Artist's are David Gibson, Mark Nightingale, Michael Dease and many others. I am now playing a Rath R2 with a nickel bell. rose tuning slide, and .510 bore and of course my favorite Dave Monette Prana mouthpiece. The Sole Rath distributor/Rep in the U.S. is Dillon music in New Jersey so if you are a U.S. resident that is the place to check out these killer trombones. The Dillon Music guys are absolutely great.. knowledgeable and helpful!
